Lessons from the Life of Joseph

Genesis 50:15-21

Let’s look at 3 lessons from the life of Joseph.

  1. Your God-given purpose will be tested by opposition. — Genesis 37:1-36

  2. Serve the Lord wherever you are in your story. — Genesis 39:1-23

  3. God desires to heal you and fulfill your God-given purpose. — Genesis 41:39-40; Genesis 50:15-21

Your God-given purpose will be tested by opposition. — Genesis 37:1-36

  • Key Concept: Satan does not want you to fulfill your God-given purpose. Therefore, expect opposition in life.

  • Key Verse: Ephesians 2:10 — For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

  • Community Group Application: Being part of the Sunday service and a weekly community group will enable us to stand strong in the midst of opposition.

Serve the Lord wherever you are in your story. — Genesis 39:1-23

  • Key Concept: Do not let your circumstances in life define you. Let God’s purpose define you.

  • Key Verse: Genesis 39:9 — “My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

  • Community Group Application: We gather and remind each other that our story has chapters—some good, some bad—but if we are still alive, then the ending is not yet written.

God desires to heal you and fulfill your God-given purpose. — Genesis 41:39-40; Genesis 50:15-21

  • Key Concept: God does not just desire to fulfill your purpose—He desires to heal you.

  • Key Verses: Genesis 50:19-20 — But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.”

  • Community Group Application: When we receive God’s inner healing, we start to see all that happened to us from a different perspective.
